  • Wow!

Woah!  You mean I haven't written on here since June??  Sheesh.  That's a lot to catch up on.

Let's see.  After my last post we went on vacation.  We went to Nashville for a few days and spent some great time with some old friends.  These were friends that we made right after we got married and Scott was in the army.  We haven't seen them for probably 13 years.  We were planning to visit Nashville anyway, but right before we left we discovered that they live there.  We ended up spending every evening with them that week and it was wonderful.  They have kids the same ages, so they got along great.  We also ate at Tootsies while we were there (I hear Kid Rock just did a photo shoot there), saw the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the zoo.

After that we drove to Georgia, I can't remember the town now, to visit some other friends.  They live out in the country in  a beautiful area.  They are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet, and we had a great time with them too.  Scott worked with Kenny when he was at Douglas County, and the families just hit it off.  We miss having them here in CO!

Then we drove to Alabama to visit my Aunt and Uncle, and my cousins.  We had a great time there too.  We don't get to see this family very often and it was so great to catch up.

After we came home, it was time to help and get our Sunday School department ready to move into our new basement space.  We have been in the same building for 60 years, so there was a lot of work to do.  We got it down and we absolutely love our new space.

Then it was just about time for school to start.  Adam started middle school (6th grade), Shellyn started 1st grade, and Bryson started Pre-K.  They are all doing great in school.

In October our church did a VBS follow up called Slime Time as a Halloween Alternative.  That was a lot of fun too.

At the beginning of November I went hunting with Scott and his buddies.  That was definitely a new experience, but it was fun. Scott finally got a deer after I left on Monday.

Right after I returned, I had an unfortunate car accident.  It was not my fault, so the other driver was ticketed and we are dealing with her insurance company.  The body shop says the car is totaled, but insurance still has to make their determination.  I was pretty shaken up and it definitely messed with my already bad chiropractic issues, but I am taking care of that.  The big bummer part is we had only owned the car for about month.  We didn't even have licence plates for it.  We loved that car and got such a great deal on it.  Oh well.

Now, it is time to get ready for the holidays, which when you work for a church, can be busy.  Extra services to get ready for, as well as helping to plan the Christmas Pageant, etc.  However, I really do love my job and I am so blessed to have it.  I have also been put in charge of changing our Children's Church program and getting the new nursery ready to handle babies by next week.  All good things.

I will try to write here more often!  I frequently get sucked into Facebook instead of coming here.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Summer

Wow, it's been a while since I was able to blog, so here I am in the quiet of the morning with my coffee and my dog.

Summer is in full swing and we have been very busy.  This weekend we are heading to Grand Junction for a wedding, which will be lots of fun.  This is for my friend who was the maid of honor at our wedding 15 years ago!  I can't wait.  This will actually be the third wedding for us to attend just in the last month.  Three of Scott's friends from work got married earlier in the month.  I know that looks like three weddings, but two of the friends got married to each other.    One of the weddings was at the Boulder Dinner Playhouse.  That was really neat.  There were only about 30 of us invited to the actual wedding.  They got married on the stage before the show.  All of us got to sit in the seats right by the stage, and the bride and groom treated everyone to dinner and the show which was the Will Rogers Follies.  Lots of fun.

Then of course, last week we had VBS.  We had so much fun.  We had 29 kids attend, which isn't really that many, but it was great.  What an amazing team we had working on this.  I am really kind of sad it is over, but hopefully I can keep the excitement and momentum of that going for the rest of the summer and as we start fall programs.  Here are some pictures.  I am only including picutures of my kids or pictures where you can't really see the other kids well because of privacy for the other families.  If anyone is wondering, we did Power Lab by Group Publishing.  I would recomend any curriculum by Group.  They are fabulous!!

Here are some of our decorations in the main church

During snack time.  Yes, that is Scott in the bottom right corner.  He was so helpful.

We have also been fishing quite a bit of course.  This is definitely our favorite family summer activity.  Scott takes the kids out to the fairgrounds at least once a week, usually more.  Sometimes I join them after work or we go late in the evening.  We have actually caught quite a few.  We have 30 + fish in our freezer now.  Now I just need to develop a taste for them so I can cook them more often.  Shellyn has been doing very well, and last week she bait the hook, cast it out, caught the fish, and reeled it in all by herself!  Bryson is having fun learning how to cast.  We give him a pole with a weight but no hook and he just casts it over and over.  Adam of course just loves being out there.  Here are some pictures of some of our recent catches.

Well, that is it for now I guess.  I hope you are having a good summer too!

  • Sigh....

Well, Mother's Day has come and gone, and it was interesting to be sure.  We had a very nice day on Saturday with my parents and grandparents.  It was a lot of fun.

Yesterday was not as fun, but that is just part of being a Mom.  After church Shellyn started throwing up and was really sick into the night.  She is better today, but that wasn't any fun for anyone.  Bryson decided to have a fit during dinner too and yelled and screamed I HATE MY DINNER for over an hour, right while I was trying to deal with Shellyn being sick.  Yikes.  He too is better today.  I guess it's a good thing we celebrated Mother's Day early!

Today has been a nice day, but a little hard too.  For the last several months we have been contemplating giving one of our dogs to the schnauzer rescue because of all her barking and the fact that taking care of three dogs is a lot of work.  We talked to the kids about it, and they agreed.  So we met the rescue lady this morning and she took Oreo.  It sounds like she already has a family for her, which is wonderful.  It was a really hard thing to do, but definitely the right thing.  The kids did fine.  Adam had a hard time and I did too.  But it is already so much more peaceful in our house now.  Here is a picture of the kids with her this morning.

Anyway, that is what is going on around here.

  • It's been a while

Wow, it's been a while since I have blogged.  We've been pretty busy.  Let's see, here's a recap:

Adam had his Arrow of Light ceremony and crossed over into Boy Scouts.  He has already earned his first badge and his Totin' Chip which means he can use a hatchet, axe, and knife.  He and Scott went to Camp Tahosa this last weekend with the group and had a nice time.  He is really doing well and enjoying it a lot.  He is really ready for middle school to start, but I am not so ready.  I am a little leary of all the things he is going to be exposed to there, but I am sure he will be OK.

Shellyn was comet of the month, which means her teacher selected her to get that special recognition of being a good citizen, etc.  She was very excited.  She loves writing stories in school.  At this stage they let her sound out the words and spell them like she thinks they sound, which can make for some very interesting words.    She went to work with me today and while she was there she made herself a little friend out of paper.  She cut it out and glued it together and name it Pearl.  I thought that was pretty cute.  Pearl rode in the back seat on the way home, with her seat belt on of course.

Bryson had a little adventure last week when he had to get stitches.  We has some friends over and they were playing baseball.  The bat ricocheted off of something and hit him right above his eye.  He had three stitches.  You can hardly even tell it was there now.  It was a tiny area, just deep.  He is his normal silly self.

We had the van in the shop all week last week because the brakes were not working right and there was a leak.  Scott had just replaced the front brakes, but they still did not feel right.  Sure enough, the guy said that our back brakes had not been working at all.  There was nothing wrong with them, the adjustment was just off.  We are very lucky we did not have an accident because before Scott replaced the front ones, they were really bad.

Well, I guess that is all for now.  I have been really busy getting ready for the spring and summer activities at church, but it is fun.  The publicity kit for VBS should arrive tomorrow, and off we go!

  • Palm Sunday

Wow!  What a weekend this has been!  Yesterday I left the house at 8:00 AM and went to a VBS networking party in Loveland.  It was at the actual publisher of the curriculum so that was really neat. We made slime, tried out all the crafts, and got ideas from other church's doing the same VBS.   I went with my friend and we had a great time and got all fired up to throw a really great VBS in June.  AAHHHHH, June is only 3 months away!  Anyway, I got home around 2:00.  I tried to take a nap, but I ended up answering the phone 3 times and answering the door twice, so that didn't happen (Scott was working overtime).  Next, we ran to the store to get a part for a ceiling fan we are trying to put in.  Bryson threw a fit the whole way.  Then, I made an egg casserole for today's breakfast and stuffed 36 Easter bags for the Sunday School kids.  My kids helped with this and it turned out to be a pretty fun activity to do together.

Today we got to church at 7:30 AM.  The Sunday School always hosts a big Palm Sunday breakfast for the whole church, so today was the big day.  (I also made a coffee cake before I left).  We set up, made lots and lots of eggs (well, I didn't but other folks did).  Then, since it was Palm Sunday, we took the kids over to the first service, handed out their palms, paraded around the church, and they sang a song for everyone.  This was followed by the actual breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt.  Then it was off to second service to parade and sing again.  The kids did an awesome job on their song and everyone loved it.

Whew!  So that is what we have been up to the last couple of days.  This will be a busy week too.  When you work in a church, Holy Week tends to be a little busy.    But, I kind of feel like I got a lot of the big stuff out of the way today, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Well, we are supposed to get a bunch of snow tonight, so tomorrow morning might be interesting.

    Have a good night.
